Assessor’s Office

ALL OWNERS OF REAL ESTATE AND/OR PERSONAL PROPERTY WISHING TO APPEAL THEIR ASSESSMENT MUST FILE AND APPEAL AN APPLICATION BY FEBRUARY 20, 2023.  APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE HERE AND IN THE ASSESSOR’S OFFICE.  THE BOARD OF ASSESSMENT APPEALS WILL MEET IN MARCH TO HEAR APPEALS.

The Assessor’s Office is responsible for the discovery, listing and valuation of all real estate and personal property, including registered motor vehicles, within the Town, in accordance with the Connecticut General State Statutes. These values generate the Grand List which is compiled annually as of the October 1st assessment date. The Grand List is used in the budget process to determine the tax rate each year. The mill rate for the October 1, 2021 Grand List is 31.70 mills. To see a history of past mill rates Click Here

Every five years the office is mandated to conduct a revaluation. The Assessor’s Office coordinates and oversees the town-wide project for all taxable and non-taxable property to reflect current fair market value.

This office also administers exemption programs for Elderly, Blind, Disabled, Veterans and Disables Veteran homeowners. Other exemptions for motor vehicles and personal property include that for active duty military, farms, manufacturer & machinery and handicapped motor vehicles.
