Town Office Buildings are closed to the public.
Motor Vehicle Supplemental Bills & 2nd Half Real Estate Bills are due, Governor Lamont signed an order in December granting an extension similar to July. Payments typically having a deadline of February 1st will have a deadline of April 1, 2021. This means April 1st is the last day to pay or have your payment postmarked, beginning April 2nd interest will be added retroactively to January 1.
If you notice your payment hasn’t been processed I ask you give us a little time to catch up due to quarantining staff and large volume of mail. We will mail receipts for payments left in the Dropbox or if requested for payments received by mail. We are available by phone and email (see below for contact information).
Until further notice we are asking your assistance to conduct business in a safe, contact-free manner. Most of our operations can be performed electronically. If you are unable to do so we are asking you put your payment in the Dropbox and that you make your payment with something other than cash. If it is absolutely essential for you to use cash, please contact us prior to making the payment and pay with exact change for your safety and ours. I know we find ourselves in difficult times and uncharted territory, by working together this too shall pass. Thank you for your cooperation!
Mission Statement
Our mission is to annually collect the highest percentage of taxes contributing to the lowest possible mill rate and financial stability of the town through application of state statutes, policies and enforcement tools and assisting the public to better understand taxation, while providing courteous and consistent customer service.
Duties/Responsibilities
The principal functions of the Collector of Revenue are to bill, collect and record tax, sewer, sewer assessment and parking violation revenue in a timely and accurate manner. In addition, serve as a central location for receipt of other town departmental revenue. It is also responsible for all delinquent billing, enforcement, filing and releasing liens.
Connecticut General Statutes dictate the procedures to be followed for the billing and collection of taxes as well as the record keeping involved and also govern when and how bills are sent, what notice is to be given or published concerning taxes, the rate and applicability of interest, how liens are applied; and what means of delinquent collections are permitted.
Beginning July 1, 2017 due to staff coverage it will be necessary for the Assessor’s Office and the Tax Office to close Monday – Thursday from 12:30 – 1:15 for lunch.
